ABOUT ME

MY STORY

Marilynne Ramsey - Ph.D., LCSW

I have worked doing therapy and evaluation, obtained licensure, and taught college at the graduate and undergraduate level. As a native of Colorado, my education has largely taken place here. I graduated with a B.A. from the University of Colorado with a major in Sociology. I studied at the University of Denver for my Master’s of Social Work (MSW) and graduated two years later. I became licensed in the state of Colorado in applied psychotherapy in 1987. I am still licensed as a social worker in Colorado and was also licensed while in Indiana when working there.

After my daughters were grown, I returned to D. U. for my Ph.D. in 2004. While a grad student, I worked on call, off hours, at the Aurora Community Mental Health Center in Aurora’s hospitals doing evaluations in their emergency rooms. After graduation I worked as a clinician/therapist in the new Community Mental Health Centers that were just being established.

I worked in several mental health centers. First was in Nebraska in 1975 at the Panhandle Mental Health Center. Next, I worked at the Bethesda Community Mental Health center in Denver in 1977, doing psychotherapy, group, family group, and day treatment. I practiced privately in Denver from 1980 through 2005. I worked with the Psychological Resource Center in geriatrics. In Indiana, while teaching, I practiced psychotherapy in three colleague’s practices.

After earning my Ph.D. I took a job as associate professor at Indiana University South Bend, teaching in their MSW program, which I did for 9 years. In 2007 I became the Program Director of the Master’s of Social Work Program at Indiana. I have taught at Westwood College, Regis University, Metropolitan State College, and as adjunct faculty at the University of Denver. Following my years of teaching, I returned to Denver to work at the Mental Health Center of Denver (now named WellPower), until my retirement in 2023. Now in 2024 I am opening a new private practice.

It is as though he listened and such listening as his enfolds us in a silence in which at last we begin to hear what we are meant to be.

Healing doesn’t always arrive in grand moments—it often begins in quiet spaces, when we feel safe enough to be seen.
